New Tottenham striker, Roman Pavlyuchenko has this evening helped Russia to an opening win in their first World Cup qualifier against Wales. The £14 million man put the Russians ahead mid-way through the first-half when he calmly put the ball beyond Wayne Hennessy from the spot.Meanwhile, Spurs left-back Gareth Bale unfortunately missed a penalty just before Pavlyuchenko put the Russians ahead. His penalty was superbly saved by Russia keeper Igor Akinfeev. The game finished 2-1 with Bale grabbing an assit for Joe Ledley's strike during the second-half.
